Amanita patherina, Panther Amanita: Usually found west of the Rockies. Scarce in the east. Location: Tea Creek Tr, MNF, WV.

 

Amanita muscaria var. flavivolvata: Yellow-orange Fly Agaric.  POISONOUS! Location: King's Gap Environmental Education Center, PA.

Amanita rubescens, Blusher: This specimen was just losing its veil. Poisonous! Location: Right Fork of Tea Creek Tr, MNF, WV.

Amanita flavoconia: AKA Yellow Patches. This is a young specimen. Bright yellow/orange with pale yellow gills. Skirt-like ring around stalk at apex. White sack at base. Location: Lindy Run Trail, Canaan Mt, MNF, WV. Mature specimen follows.

Agaricus arvensis, Horse Mushroom: Large white mushroom w/spicy smell. Usually found in the grass. Pink to brown gills. Location New River Gorge NR, WV.

 

Amanita brunnescens: A common mushroom found on the forest floor. Location: King's Gap Environmental Education Center, PA.

Amanita fulva, Tawny Grisette: Edible but easily confused with more toxic relatives. Location: Tea Creek Tr, MNF, WV.
